Welcome to Art History! In this course, we will journey through time to discover how humanity has used creativity to express power, faith, and identity. We won’t just be analyzing "pretty pictures" from a distance; we will actively explore the stories and secrets hidden behind every brushstroke. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to bring these concepts to life by creating your own art, using historical techniques and styles to deepen your understanding of the masters. Whether you are a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, this class will give you a new set of eyes to see the world.

 

We will acquaint ourselves with famous artists, artworks, and art movements and investigate what it means to view art, beauty, and truth. Whether you consider yourself an artist or someone who can’t draw a straight line, this class will provide you with a new set of eyes to see the stories hidden behind every brushstroke and sculpture.

Jayson is a local artist who currently works with acrylic paintings on canvas. He has years of experience of private art lessons from other professionals, working primarily in oil painting. He studied art from elementary school through college and has continued to create as an adult.

 

Jayson is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Hoover where he runs a private practice with his wife Kristina. Jayson has a master's degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and has been practicing in Hoover since 2019. He and Kristina have 3 young children and are currently sharing teaching duties for homeschooling them. He has a love for connecting with students and creating a safe and playful environment to learn.
